They’re adorable. Seriously. CaraMae & Matt are just fantastically adorable. And CaraMae put so much thought into every little moment and detail. She even baked cookies… hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of cookies… for all of their guests. The cookies jars were the place cards and everyone looooooved them! I admit that I was the tiresome kid in class who always raised her hand and looooooooved getting a gold star on homework. (There. I’ve said it out loud.) I was also patently terrible at sports but that certainly never stopped me from being competitive. (There are many reasons that I’m photographing kickball rather than playing.) So when I finally get around to entering competitive images and they actually receive awards? And those awards move me into the top twenty-five from all over the world?! Well… I dance around with the cat and dog like a giddy little kid… I’m soooooo excited!

Kickball… and beer (Kickin It for a Cause)

So Jodie joined a kickball league. And owing to some dear friends’ complete inability to do anything the old fashioned regular boring way… this league was started by a guy who thought the other league was a bit too serious (read: uptight). So Wednesday nights are all about the social side. Don’t have enough players to field your team? Everyone enjoys a social drink, the itty bitty team forfeits the game, and then plays anyway with whoever they can find. Dog owners who’ve ‘enjoyed a malt beverage’ are warned not to let their dogs go vampire on the balls. When it doubt? Celebrate the do over.

There’s something just really, really, really cool about getting to see your name in print. And I loooooooove Amanda’s laugh! We had the most gorgeous rain up at Keystone Ranch that didn’t affect Amanda’s beaming smile in the least. And then the clouds parted just after the ceremony in celebration. It was a truly wonderful day.

And it’s seriously terrific to see Amanda & Brady smiling back from the pages of Brides…

I big huge joyous tears love Susan! She just has to be shared. When hubby sent the video to me last evening there had been three million YouTube views. This morning there have been almost six million. I love her. I hope she is in her village with Pebbles overjoyed and on her way to amazing things.

Meghan & Greg… got married!

Sure I cry at weddings. But the best is when I cry with the memories and the photos too! I still pinch myself that this is what we get to do with our lives.

The very first time I met Meghan & Greg you could feel what they meant to each other. It was almost like getting a love contact high just sitting with them. Somehow Greg keyed that up and got this wonderful woman to marry him. Lucky Meghan, her rocket scientist husband (!) took on the spreadsheets and the organization. When I got to the church there was a small army of friends organizing this gorgeous wedding. Video lights, amazing flowers, family photos, prayer, tears… and beer and pizza. It was everything a wedding can be and just perfectly Meghan & Greg…

And never in my life have I wanted to be just a few inches taller.

What an incredible few days. I don’t think I ever thought that I would go to an inauguration. When you make the list of events you’d like to attend in your lifetime it’s often a performing artist (U2 or Etta James or Van Morrison or The Police) or a sporting event (Wimbledon, a national championship, the World Cup). I don’t usually think of a political event. But now, this feels like the most amazing gift to have been here. We held hands and cried. I thought the quartet’s performance was terrific. (I think it was a riff on an Aaron Copeland piece. Part of the melody sounded so familiar, but I wasn’t sure if it was off of Appalachian Spring, which would be interesting given Obama’s take on this figurative winter we are in.) I loved Joesph Lowery’s benediction. Gotta love a good southern preacher. Obama’s oath was such a tiny fraction of the day. Even so, you couldn’t miss the fact that the world has changed.

There were literally millions of people. It was much, much colder than it looked on TV. And I can’t imagine being anywhere else…

I keep pinching myself. I can’t believe we here. We heard U2 live. We heard Stevie Wonder. Pete Seeger looked like he was having a blast. I listened to the president-elect speak about where we’ve been and where we’re going. And all of this as part of the biggest crowd I’ve ever been in.

The energy in DC this week is electric. We’re all walking forever and braced for the cold. But to a person the vibe is so excited and contagious that no one seems to mind. The national anthem broke out spontaneously in the crowd. People are helping each other. Everyone’s smiling. There’s a sense of history and hope. I can’t believe we get to be here…

AGWPJA Award Winner!

So I’m excited, very, very excited, to spread the news that one of my favorite photos from Jenna & Matt’s gorgeous Air Force Academy Chapel wedding has received an award from the Artistic Guild of the Wedding Photojournalist Association! Wedding photographers from all over the world enter images and I am just over the moon to be among those receiving recognition!

I looooved this wedding and this moment as the men in Matt’s life gathered around to lay hands on him and pray before the ceremony… it was just amazing. You could feel at the time that this was an incredible moment to capture and hold still forever. I still get a little chill at the strength and the love in these men. Really, it’s Jenna & Matt who are the winners…
