Sooo, when Miller’s announced their search for the next ‘We Are Miller’s’ ad I thought why not the dogs? Why not try to get a bunch in the studio and play? Of course, I totally underestimated how hard it is for me to be in front of the camera! My amazing friend Julie Harris came in to do the shoot and after an hour of mild chaos and a lot of laughs we got the shot for our entry. Thank you soooooo much to everyone who brought their little furballs in for the fun!

Lots of Dogs: We need happy, well adjusted dogs of all shapes and sizes. They’ll be sitting very closely together so your dog must be comfortable with other dogs. All shapes and sizes are welcome! The goofier the better…

The fantastic team at Design Aglow just released a new dog inspire guide… that features some of my dog photography! The inspire guides are set of little cards that you can study or bring with you on shoots to give you fantastic ideas for what to do with your subjects. The coolest part is that they are delivered to you digitally so you can have your lab print a set and you’re ready to go. (No waiting to have a product shipped to you.)

Here’s the cool part… I’m in there with some seriously amazing photographers! Amanda Jones, Erin Vey, Ann Hamilton, Jaime at Cowbelly… These folks are incredible! And I am just over the moon to be in the same inspire guide with them. Pinch me!!!

Course topics include:
- Essentials Tools: camera gear and all the other goodies you’ll need
- Dog Behavior: understanding how dogs communicate with us and how to use that understanding to create the photos you want
- Push vs. Pull: motivating a four-legged model
- Other Subjects: horses, cats, rats… the implications of other creatures
- Live Shoot Using Available Light
- Discussion of Studio Light: its benefits and limits when working with dogs

(Students should have a solid understanding of ISO, aperture, and shutter speeds, as well as operative focal lengths.)

The wonderful folks at Working With Artists have invited me to teach dog photography for them this summer and it’s going to be sooooooooo much fun! You can find info on their site about the Half Stop workshop this weekend. I’ll be teaching a one hour teaser at 11am and then the full class will be August 8th.

Be sure to contact WWA if you’re planning to come Saturday. (Leave a comment or drop me an email to let me know too!) Attendance at the Half Stop is limited to members, but it’s very inexpensive to join and a great organization. The full August class is open to everyone. Hope to see y’all there!

As always, the women of Anna Be were beyond wonderful. It’s such an amazing place to shop for a wedding gown. Oh how I wish they had been around when I got married! And now with Sara Gabriel upstairs it’s just the perfect place for the ideal gown and your custom veil. Sadly, I can’t show photos of the terrific brides trying on their dresses. Those are a secret. But I can show you fabulous Anna Be!

** (A note for brides… As you’re choosing the wedding photographer to invite to photograph your wedding, of course look for amazing images and a terrific connection. Also give weight to the juried organizations they belong to where peers have chosen their work as outstanding. But at the very least, make sure that your photographer is a member of the open organizations that support and educate the industry, WPPI and PPA at a minimum. I’m proud to be a member of both. I take caring for my clients and the health of my business seriously!)
