I love being able to return to a family. When I first photographed Ella she was celebrating her first birthday. Well now she’s very, very two years old and welcoming her baby sister Morgan… Who is about the sweetest little muffin ever! Look out MJ. You’re going to need to guard the house when these two grow up…

Allen’s journey…

I adore Katie & Allen. They’re so deep in my heart that I can’t imagine a time when they weren’t there. Katie is an old friend and we photographed their magical, joyful wedding in Mexico last spring.

Allen is a cancer survivor. And in November they found out that that he needs to survive it for a third time. I can’t imagine the blow that this would be. My brother is a survivor and I remember our journey with him. Still, just thinking about my husband falling ill completely takes the breath out of me. Allen is strong, so is Katie. Watching them together you realize that this is what love looks like.

Allen decided that this time he wanted to document the journey. I’m amazed by how different it all is in a world of iPhones and blogs and Xboxes. There’s no sitting around waiting for nurses, unable to sleep, nothing on TV. Allen retains more control of his environment. He’s blogging and participating. He asked me to photograph and I told him I’d be honored…

And they’re bringing Will and Jackson! Who, by the way, are absolutely hilarious. I had the best time with this happy family. The toy swords came out and we took off to the park… and embraced the mild chaos for the most fun ever!

And I mean everybody! The cat and one of the dogs even joined us at one point. I’m still amazed every day at what a blast we get to have making family portraits. Dawn and the gang were up for anything and, wow, did we have fun!

The door opened… to fairy wings and a kitten. Really, does it get any more fun than this? I had an absolute blast with Jasia and Malia. We spun in pretty dresses, jumped on the bed, seriously harassed Kit Kat the kitten, and did a very, very good job reading Dr. Seuss…

Sonya found me when her family moved up from Texas and it has been an absolute joy watching the girls grow up in photographs. And now… there’s a boy on the way! So since mommy has this gorgeous belly of course we all had to find our bellies too…
