Munique Lhuillier Trunk Show at Anna Be

I loooooove Monique Lhuillier dresses. Almost to the point of addiction. So when Anna Be got the line and planned a trunk show to introduce the gowns I knew I wanted to be there!

As always, the women of Anna Be were beyond wonderful. It’s such an amazing place to shop for a wedding gown. Oh how I wish they had been around when I got married! And now with Sara Gabriel upstairs it’s just the perfect place for the ideal gown and your custom veil. Sadly, I can’t show photos of the terrific brides trying on their dresses. Those are a secret. But I can show you fabulous Anna Be!

Charlotte & Jon… unbridal

If you’ve been out on a shoot with me you know that I get giddy when everything is going terrific. I love that feeling. I wish I could bottle it up. I’m lucky that it comes back as I review the photos and get ready to post them here. It’s my sincere hope that some of that joy comes to you too…

I’m addicted to Hanalei and Charlotte & Jon. I’ve never thought of myself as a beach person, more just wide open spaces wherever they may be. But there’s something about Hanalei and the beaches… and the way that love, true love, shows in every way that Charlotte & Jon move together. Charlotte took my breath away and the two of them captured my heart. And I think I may have left part of my heart with the romance on this beautiful island…

So, today is supposed to be a sneak peek at Charlotte & Jon’s wedding photos (which I absolutely love!), but… most of the wedding guest have already gotten to see some of those photos during the slideshow at the reception… and I am so absolutely head over heals for the unbridal photos we made the day after the wedding… that I had to post these instead!

Charlotte & Jon are simply amazing together. They laugh and snuggle and their joy is contagious. I just love these two and I will be forever grateful to them for inviting us here to photograph their wedding. And I’m staying in Hanalei forever…

Ashley & Brian… unbridal

I love unbridal shoots. Whenever we travel to shoot a wedding I always include an unbridal shoot as a thank you for the bride and groom and these shoots are always sooooo much fun! The day after the wedding any pressure is gone and we can just play and celebrate the first day of the rest of their lives together. I love it!

In most cases the bride wears her wedding dress. The big secret is that most dresses, with the exception of duchess silk satin, survive a little sand and water just fine. The trick is to be sure that your dry cleaner knows that the dress has been in salt water. But in Ashley’s case the dress went straight to the cleaners to be ready for her reception back in Denver. Instead she wore the cutest little white Calvin Klein dress for our romp om the Santa Monica Pier. Brian even let me talk them onto a tandem bike for the ride down to Shutters. I just love these two…

Katie & Allen… unbridal

One of my favorite things about destination weddings is unbridals. We almost always do a shoot that takes advantage of the terrific location. For Katie & Allen that meant the beach… and oh my goodness did they ever embrace the romance of it! We were completely soaked by the end, me too, but it was so worth it. I admit that I’m still a sap for that wonderful beach scene in From Here to Eternity where Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr roll in the waves. How amazing to have photos like that on the first day of your marriage. Now that’s a good start!

So this just keeps getting cooler. I can’t begin to describe how fortunate I feel. Eleven beautiful women who are also terrific photographers joined me in Vegas for an amazing unbridal shoot. They helped me make the impossible happen. Not only did the photos end up featured in Rangefinder, but now they’re on Don’t Box Us In and Trash the Dress!

OK. So this is just cool and I can’t believe how incredibly fortunate I feel. These images are from the crazy unbridal shoot we did in Vegas last month and it has been a wild ride ever since. I remain endlessly grateful to the terrific women photographers who came out to be photographed and now to top it all off… we’ve been published in Rangefinder! Definitely time to celebrate…

I have wild hairs. I have crazy ideas. I am ridiculously ambitious about what I can accomplish in a short period of time. And sometimes… my mild nuttiness makes magic…. In this case, a rescheduled unbridal shoot, a great location, and a reservation I didn’t want to give up combined to created some of my favorite images.

We brought eleven wedding photographers, most in their own wedding dresses and with vintage cameras from my collection, out to the Boneyard for a one of a kind shoot celebrating women wedding photographers.

I love the men I know who are wedding photographers. They have huge, generous hearts and I would love to be photographed by any one of them. (Hint guys!) But I also think that as women, especially in what was once a very male dominated field, we bring something unique to our work. We’ve stayed up nights dreaming about our weddings. We’ve had those butterflies and those expectations and those fears of not wanting to be a crazy bride but knowing what you want. We’ve wondered if our groom will cry when we walk down the aisle… It’s probably part of why I feel so close to the amazing women whose weddings I have the opportunity to photograph. And why I still get so excited about the dress! Even years after our weddings, the dress, like the photos, brings memories flooding back. We all have stories about our dresses and, temporarily rescued from boxes and closets, we had an awful lot of fun with them…

It was an amazing gift to go back to those memories in the company of these photographers. These beautiful women are in my heart and I am endlessly grateful to them. Thank you, thank you to Tana, Aimee, Julia, Jonilyn, Amanda, Shannon, Erin, Kammi, Jamie, ReJana, and Bridget for your warmth, friendship, and being incredibly good sports during a very fast shoot!
